You play a key part in the experience of new volunteers or volunteers transitioning into new roles. There are lots of responsibilities for you as a line manager in scouting - but there is also a lot of support too. We have put together some quick links and resources on this page to help you induct new scouters and who knows? They may stay with us for life!
The purpose of the appointment process is to ensure that all those adults that the Movement accepts as volunteers:
Are appropriate persons to volunteer with The Scouts
Are appropriate for the roles they are undertaking
Fully accept the responsibilities of the roles and, where appropriate, the responsibilities of membership of The Scouts
Application: where a line manager agrees to support an adult applying for an appointment
Approval: where independent checking concludes that this person is suitable for an appointment and includes successful outcome of the Personal Enquiry and two references
Appointment: where the District Commissioner makes the appointment
Induction: where the line manager ensures that the adult receives a high quality induction
We try to do as much as we can in parallel - each of these elements are equally important.
We know this process may seem intimidating. We run the process in line with the following principles:
The line manager recommends the applicant for the appointment.
The appointment is approved by the Appointments Advisory Committee, the relevant Executive Committee or the relevant Scout Council according to the appointment being made.
The relevant Commissioner, the relevant Executive Committee or the relevant electoral body with the responsibility for making the appointment.
POR dictates who needs an appointment as part of their induction into scouting, or where someone has change roles. The roles are set-out in the table below.
For a list of roles, open the sheet in a new browser tab, then from the menu, select : DATA > FILTER VIEWS > NEED APPOINTMENT
